The Murders (band) [edit] [flag] Last Updated: 2008-06-04

The Murders are an Indie Rock/New Wave/Retro Punk act from Boise, Idaho, USA. The Murders were formed originally as the side project of Jacobb T. Sackett in early 2004. At the time, Jacobb and his wife, Ashley Sackett were in another band. But that band, however, eventually split, leaving Jacobb and his lovely wife, Ashley, who he had been with in other bands before. This also gave both of them the opportunity to start recording their own music, which was unlike anything they had played or had written before. Jacobb and Ashley have been quoted as saying "We were finally making music that we wanted to make". The Murders write all of their own music and you can tell by their sound the kind of music which has inspired them. Early 80's new wave/goth/synth music such as Wall Of Voodoo, Devo, The Cramps, Joy Division, Bauhaus and Adam Ant have been a big influence on The Murders, as well as more modern Indie Rock bands such as The Strokes, The Hives, Interpol and The New Pornographers. Other Alternative acts that have inspired The Murders have been The Pixies, Radiohead, Blur, Goldfrapp and Supergrass. Jacobb recorded The Murders' first 2 albums, "Such A Romantic" and "Sedusa", from 2004 to 2006. Calling the project The Murders, referring to the theory that every murder is different in some way and making that theory a parallel to their music, The Murders set out to share this music with the world and eventually add members to make it a full band. The Murders played numerous shows around Idaho from 2006-2007 and had the honor of opening for Northwest punk favorites The Epoxies in June of 2006. The Murders also had a wonderful time in Portland, Oregon on 10/18/2007, participating in the national BoDog's Battle Of The Bands Competition in which The Murders got through the first round. After the show, 2 members decided to pursue other careers. At this time The Murders are looking for at least 2 members to add to their band. The Murders bring back an old school/retro punk sound with tastes of new wave and indie rock. Their sound is completely their own and one of their trademarks is their very energetic and interesting stage show, complete with fog machines, giant red balloons, and uncalled for and unecessary between song banter dished out by singer Jacobb T. Sackett.
